Last Summer I was so blessed and fortunate to intern with Scout Digital. There I was able to learn about my passion which is social media and digital strategy in the fashion industry. I also met so many people and gained so many connections! Seriously the best internship I've ever had... and trust me I've had some pretty dope ones. But there was this gentleman who worked with LaForce and there was something about him that was so intriguing. The way he lead meetings or conference calls, the way he took leadership and commanded a room, I was drawn to that and decided to interview him while I was interning at Scout. I firmly believe if there is something you want to learn research or ask questions. You'll get so much further by seeking answers and gaining knowledge.
Well I ended up interviewing this guy for my closing internship project in class and wow.... It was seriously the best interview ever. He is a black gay male so it was very easy to connect with him on so many levels. Some advice that was given...
1) What ever city you live in investigate what industry that city is known for and work in it. If anything ever happens i.e you're let go, you will always have a job.
2) Being Black they say you have to work twice as hard... no you have to work five, six seven times as hard.
And this one was my ultimate favorite...
3) Read. Read, read, read... EVERYTHING.
I thought okay duh that's pretty simple lol... But no really working in the fashion industry you never know who you're going to meet. You need to be well rounded so that you can connect with someone of a different gender, race or even a higher status than you. In a conversation they may bring something up and who wants to be the person who has never heard of what the other person is talking about alllllll the time. (I don't.) Of course you want to learn something new but be well rounded to where when you hear something whether it be new or not you can bounce back and relate and maybe give them something new that they never thought about. I turn it can make you seem like to "owned" the conversation, took control and you know what you're talking about. You're the captain of the boat. With that being said I told myself I can stand to read more. More than just reading the hilarious captions on The Shade Room and Baller Alert, I mean really reading. Looking and researching theories, facts and history. Some books that have been of interest are...

Links are attached to these book titles so please follow along with me! S/O to Amazon!! They always come through!!! LOL! Anyway I would love to have online conversations about different thoughts or ideas or something you just liked reading about. I think I'm going to start with #GIRLBOSS.
Happy reading! #KandyReignReads
